the Forum Romanum, near the Volcanal (Pliny, Nat. Hist. XVI, 236), and flanking the Sacra Via between the Regia and the Arch of Titus, were certain small offices, similar to tabernae. They were maintained by representatives of cities of the Roman Empire, and were administered by a "stationarius" (CIL VI, 250). Among the cities mentioned in the inscriptions are: Noricum, Tivoli, Vienne, Caesarea, Tiberias (Claudiopolis) and Tarsus (Athenaeum 1958, pp. 106-116). A fragment of the architrave of the statio of Tarsus (Inscriptiones Graecae XIV, 1006 a) has been set up beside the Sacra Via, near its place of origin opposite the Templum Divi Romuli.
