Utopian Society

As I told you, I wrote a book sometime ago. I don`t have that book here in Canada, it is in storage with my other belongings in the United Kingdom.

This seems like a good time to revisit some of the content. Who knows what this world will look like when we come out the other side of this pandemic.

No one society is perfect, well that I know of. In my book I tried to take successful elements of different societies and meld them together to create a model for a colony.

As I was born on the prairies, which is farming country, my first point of reference is the Hutterites. But there are several other successful tribes/villages/societies.

Hutterites are very financially successful. They are usually traditional farmer. The group fled from Germany in the 1500 due to Christian persecution. They are orthodoxed and steeped in tradition.

There education system is based on teaching the members only what they will need to function and contribute to life within the colony. That makes life outside the colony challenging.

Some of their culture I included in my book, but not too much. The Hutterites are a very peaceful group, but they are very business savey. They colonies usually have 150 to 250 people. Once a colony grows to a certain point they seek land for a sister colony.

They don`t only seek land they seek fractured land. That means land with oil.

Although they are so financially successful the group lives in austerity. Clearly this derives from their traditions. That does not appeal to me.

Because they are traditional farmers they farm animals. Another aspect of the Hutterites that does not appeal to me.

I’m vegan and I think that people should live in harmony with animals rather than eating them.
In my book I wrote a lot about farming algae.

There are many different method of farming algae and several different strands that can be used in different ways. Algae can be farmed for food and petrol and in the process of making petrol it cleans waist water. This is very beneficial for a small community.

What ties a society to a government is money and petrol. If I colony can create their own petrol and grow their own food, they can become independent.

One of the best things the Hutterites did early on is create laws to keep the government out of their live. This is a large reason for their success.

This is the large difference between Canadian Natives and the Hutterites. Because of this decision by the Hutterites they are quietly more power than the Governement. They just keep to themselves and pay their taxed and in return they live private lives.

As I Canadian I have always felt a sense of shame contributing to a society where the Government treats their Natives as Canada does.

As we see things today, is the out come of hundreds of years of bad choices by both groups. And if Canada were to completely improve the situation they would have to go back hundreds of years and undo what has been done the this group.

We all know that is impossible. So now the Government and Politicians do a dance for the media, which I find extremely painful to watch when the two groups clearly hate each other. In watching this dance, it makes me feel as if I am observing a co-dependent couple that should just cut their ties and call it a day.

This is the reason why I took more aspects form Hutterite colonies. Because the group fled from Christian persecution they had very little desire to contribute to the rest of the population.
