Eleanor and Louis were married in the Cathedral of Saint-André in Bordeaux.

Only a few days after the wedding, Louis VII and Eleanor became King and Queen of France. Eleanor had a high-spirited nature and was criticised for her immodest dress and language. Her conduct was seen as indecorous by church elders. The king, however, was in love with his beautiful wife and granted her every whim. In 1145, Eleanor gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Marie. On Christmas Day 1145, Louis declared his intention of going on a crusade.

The queen was adamant to participate and recruited some of her royal ladies-in-waiting for the campaign as well as 300 non-noble Aquitainian vassals.
